Our Last Adventure in Finland

For our last time discussing Finland, I will be combining a couple of topics. In this one, we will discuss the travel costs and the cons of Finland. Since Finland is an incredibly safe country Travel costs might be its biggest downside. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Air travel
For this section, I will use prices from LAX and JFK Airports to get you an idea of what it might cost for each class. Prices will vary depending on the airport of your choosing and the time of year you go. So I will do my best to give you an average price.
Economy: The cheapest I can find is out of JFK at $450 per person, and the most expensive is out of LAX and is $2,900 per person. The average ticket price from either is about $1500 per person.
Business: This class takes quite a jump in prices as you might expect. The cheapest seems to be out of LAX at $3,000 per person. The most expensive is also out of LAX and is $11,500 per person. On average it seems you can expect to spend about $6,000 per person.
First: Naturally the most expensive, you will pay a pretty penny to sit here. But after 18 hours on a plane, it might seem worth it. The cheapest looks to be out of JFK and is $5,500. The most expensive is out of LAX and is just under $20,000. Given that the cheapest is less than an average Business class ticket, you might be better off just springing for the first class. The average cost of a first-class ticket however seems to be around $11,000. So if you can get a good deal on a first-class seat, make sure you jump on it.
Hotels
As mentioned in my last Newsletter, Finland has some unique hotels. The most famous of which has to be the glass igloos, since they offer a unique and comfortable way to view the Northern lights.

These specific igloos you see depicted are from the Kakslattanen Arctic resort. They do not offer an all-inclusive option. They do have a restaurant though, and if you stay here you should expect to spend $550 per night.

Another option is Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa.
Here you can find a nice king bedroom for $130 a night, or you can spring for the glass igloo room you see above which is $330 a night. Which is still $200 cheaper for the same type of experience as the room above.
Excursions
In my last Newsletter, we talked about things to do, so I’ll keep this section brief.
For things like Waterparks and Amusement parks, it seems you would want to plan on spending about $75 per person.
To visit Santa Village, you should expect to spend about $150-$200 per person. Some of these tours also include Dog sledding.
For the zoo, it seems that the cost is about $15 per person.
I won’t give tour prices because tours are boring and you can find better things to do with your time.
Food
Eating in Finland seems to be pretty cheap. The average cost to eat at Mid-level restaurants is about $20 per person. But budget a little extra so you can eat at a fancy restaurant at least once. If you want a fancy meal you can expect to spend about $100 per person.
Cons
To finish things off, I will leave you with a quick section about the downside of Finland.
There really is hardly anything bad I can say about this country. They are ranked as the Happiest country in the world. They have a very low crime rate (86 crimes per 1,000 people) Crimes against tourists are low. With many natural attractions, you can also travel here for cheap, especially when compared to the rest of Europe. I’ve looked and the biggest negative about this country seems to be the weather and that it’s close to Russia. But the weather is only a negative if you like the tropics.
In Conclusion.
