Tahiti: How Much Does it Cost?

Tahiti. Credit: unknown

With fantastic ocean views, amazing sunsets, and so many luxury resorts to choose from, you’re probably wondering how much a trip to this piece of paradise might just cost you. Well, I have the answer or at least an estimate of what the answer is!

Flights

As usual, I will give you a price range for Economy, Business, and First-class. I will also use prices out of JFK and LAX. Instead of stating the highs and lows out of each airport though, this time I will just give a simple price range.

Economy

The prices start lower than you might expect starting at $650 and ranging to $1,200 being the cheapest flights within the next 6 months. I was going to provide more of a price range but Tahiti only has 1 airport, so flight options are limited. Most variation in pricing will come down to the airport you leave from

Business

Business class also isn’t too bad, certainly not as bad as other destinations. The price range for business class seems to range from $3,000- $5,500

First

Once again there is some overlap between the business class prices and first class prices. In fact, they practically have the same price range, ranging from $4,500- $6,000. If you are planning a vacation here, now is the time to book since according to Google, flights are $1,800 cheaper than they usually are.

Hotels

We’ve all seen pictures of the overwater bungalows and luxury hotels that populate Tahiti. And of course, those that you see are going to cost top dollar. So as usual, I’m going to provide you with a range of different options from budget prices, mid-range, to luxury so you can know which is best for you.

Budget.

Price Range- $42- $77. I don’t recommend this price range. Most of the options seem to be people’s homes and the accommodations are lacking compared to the other resorts offered. Because of that, I will not be providing pictures or recommendations.

Mid-Range

Price Range- $100- $300

Recommendation: Te Moana Tahiti Resort. ($270 per night)

This hotel is a great mid-range option. It is on the higher side of the price range, but you get nice accommodations, great views, and more. The drawbacks are, there is not an all-inclusive option, and the breakfast buffet isn’t free.

Luxury

Price Range- $400- $1,000 I also cannot recommend these options. Nothing available that I can find lives up to the term luxury. None of them even have breakfast included for their higher price. Most of the listings are just people trying to rent out their Airbnb’s and claiming them as luxury. It also seems the over-water bungalows can only really be found in Bora Bora, which is just an island or two over. So because the airfare is practically the same, just head over there and take one of the day trip excursions over to Tahiti.

In Conclusion.

Normally I would continue on with the prices to give you a full breakdown, but it seems that Tahiti is not the destination you should visit when traveling to French Polynesia. Bora Bora has nicer hotel options, and the flights are the same price. There is a day number of day trips to Tahiti, from Bora Bora that cost $100- $200 per person. And because of that, just stay in Bora Bora, and visit Tahiti while there.
