Thailand: Things to do.

Welcome back to our second adventure into Thailand. Last time we learned a bit about their history, but today will probably interest you a bit more. We will be discussing some of the things you can experience in this country as a tourist. So without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Climb the Ghost Tower.

Let me start off this one by saying as of 2018 climbing this tower is not exactly legal. You risk serious punishment, and incredible danger by attempting this climb. The floors are unlit and partially collapsed. You can also fall down an open elevator shaft. And if you do survive the 40+ story climb, you still run the risk of being caught.

And with the warning out of the way, I will continue on. With 40+ floors of completely abandoned skyscraper to explore, this seems like the ultimate adventure for Urban Explorers. In the past, you could simply pay off the security, but that is no longer the case as that security team has been fired.

Construction on this building began in 1990 when Thailand was experiencing an economic boom. It was intended to be Luxury condos but the owner went bankrupt and it has sat empty ever since. Climbing the tower was then made illegal after a gruesome suicide in 2014. Even still it is rated as one of the best Urban exploration destinations in the world. Some lists say it’s one of the best places to watch the sunset in Thailand. You will not find tours through this building, and climbing it is at your own risk. Since it is illegal, I do not condone doing so.

Go Temple Hopping

With over 30,000 Buddhist temples in Thailand, you can literally spend your entire time temple-hopping. Because there are so many temples, Thailand has been called ‘The Land of Temples.’

Now, like any other temple, they do have a visitation policy. It’s nothing major, but these are considered Holy sites so it’s important to be respectful. All they ask is that you dress politely, take off your shoes, (for the sake of everyone wash your feet before going), keep your head lower than the images of Buddha and the monks, don’t point your feet at Buddha or the monks, talk quietly, PDA isn’t allowed, no smoking, and no drinking.

This might sound strict, but these are truly beautiful places that are worth a visit. And if you’re lucky you might even get to witness a Buddhist ceremony. These mostly consist of offerings to Buddha (flowers and candles), meditation, and chanting.

Visit an Elephant Sanctuary.

If you are an animal lover then Thailand is the perfect destination for you. It is home to many animal sanctuaries and one of the world’s largest aquariums. But the animal it’s most famous for has to be the Elephant. Here there are many tours you can take that let you get up close and personal with these gentle giants. In captivity, Elephants are well known for their loving and playful nature. They’ll play games with you, give you rides, and much more. One of the most popular tours is bathing with the Elephants. I don’t know why, it sounds stinky but people seem to enjoy it. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1224250-d13237105-Reviews-Green_Elephant_Sanctuary_Park-Choeng_Thale_Thalang_District_Phuket.html

In Conclusion

This is a very short list of all the things Thailand has to offer. It is also home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, like the Krabi Islands. There are countless other adventures, but I hope this list has given you an idea of what you can do in this country.
